DECOMISSIONED

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, a power vacuum emerged, leading to the rise of a narrow majority that ultimately resulted in the current state of Russia, characterized by the dominance of oligarchs and totalitarian regimes. The Russian people and the former Soviet states have largely been marginalized, with villages succumbing to obscurity across the country.

The purpose of my thesis is to delve into these various communities and the remnants they contain. Through my analysis, I intend to examine abandoned military facilities, mosaic design, Kruschevkas, memorials, and bus stops as cultural and architectural artifacts of their era. My objective is to develop speculative architectural interventions that address extreme climates, economic decline, and community sustainability in remote regions of Russia.
