the Scar - Spring 2022
Project Narrative
War is something that’s never changed. If you were to analyze each generation that has had to go through a major or minor conflict it affected the civilian population the exact same way. Its cause displacement, humanitarian crises, and mass migration of different ethnic groups. It will not change unless humans can some how find a way to expel corruption and greed from human nature. However, its within our nature to create conflict between one another.
Its also in our nature to be greedy and corrupt when greeted with immense power such as having control over a massive number of resources whether its physical resources like oil and precious metals, or its technical data such as that collected by Big Tech here in the states. Power leads to corruption and greed. Corruption and greed can lead to conflict. Conflict leads to putting dozens of innocent people in harms way both mentally and physically. War is a scar that will never heal.
During my design process I started with the idea of using a scar to represent a past human conflict. I engrained this scar in the physical landscape of my design and created multiple viewpoints for reflection as shown in my moment renderings. I ultimately wanted to create spaces that represent a place of solace and reflection within a building once touched by conflict. I wanted my design to represent and bring awareness to human conflicts of the past, the present, and the future.
Conflicts shape a country/ group of people’s culture, and this theme will continue throughout the future of human history.
